Tanghulu

Tanghulu was an interesting experience for the kids. They loved the idea of sugar on fruit. But you know kids, the would still love to just enjoy the sugar, no fruit. Haha! Once thing I will warn you, your teeth may suffer because of the sugar coating, and for obvious reasons, this is going to be SWEET! I would recommend using a thermometer to measure the temperature. If you don’t have a thermometer, then you can use the trick of pouring a little of the thickened  sugar syrup in some cold water. If it becomes hard like candy, then it’s done.

Tanghulu

Ingredients

4 cups of fresh fruits.

1 cup sugar

2/3 cup water

Instructions

  1. Cut the leaves off the strawberries, then prepare the other fruits you want to use.

  2. Pass skewers through the fruit. Set the fruit aside.

  3. Combine the water and sugar in a pan, without mixing it, cook it on a low heat until the sugar dissolves and the temperature reaches 300f (hard candy stage). If you mix it then the mixture will crystallise.

  4. Remove the sugar mixture from the stove and then we can begin to dip our fruit into the sugar syrup. Be very careful not to burn yourself.

  5. Set it aside to set. Use a bowl of ice water to set the dipped fruit quicker.
