Plum Chutney

Writer's picture: Happy Hungry Hijabi Happy Hungry Hijabi

Plum Chutney is one of the staples for Ramadan. I make a huge batch of this and set them in jars. I usually make enough to last a month. But I have scaled back the quantities for you all so you can make enough for around 4-6 people, or a 500ml jar. I love how I can serve this with kebabs, samosas and pakoras. It goes with everything, that is why I love it so much!

Plum Chutney

Preparation Time 5 minutes

Cook Time 15 minutes

Serves

Ingredients

250 grams dried plums

1 cup water

200 grams sugar

2 tablespoons vinegar

5-10 almonds- skinless

1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder

Salt- to taste

Instructions

  1. Place the plums and water in a saucepan on a low heat until the plums begin to soften.

  2. Add the sugar, salt and red chilli powder. Cook it on a low heat for 4-5 minutes until it begins to thicken. Do not allow it to thicken too much. Turn the stove off.

  3. Add the vinegar and almonds. Mix it in.

  4. Pour the chutney into a clean glass jar and allow it to cool to room temperature.

  5. Store in the fridge for up to 3 months.
