Mushroom Puff Tarts

Updated: Apr 7

I am always looking for an easy and quick recipe idea that will be a hit for everyone. Although these mushroom puff tarts look so sophisticated and professional, everyone loved them!!! They were great for a dinner party! Adding the feta cheese on top, elevated the puffs and adds another dimension of flavour: a slight saltiness and creaminess to the mushrooms.

Mushroom Puff Tarts

Preparation Time 5 minutes

Cook Time 30 minutes

Serves

Ingredients

500 grams puff pastry squares

Egg wash

2 tablespoons oil

3/4 cup onion- chopped

450 grams mushroom- sliced

4 cloves garlic- minced

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon dried thyme

1/2 cup cream cheese

1/2 cup feta cheese- crumbled

Instructions

  1. Place the puff pastry squares on a baking sheet 1 inch apart. Make scores 1 cm around the edges of the puff pastry. Do not cut through the pastry, just score it.

  2. Make the mushroom mixture: heat 2 tablespoons oil in a pan. Add the onion and sauté for 2-3 minutes until they soften and become translucent. Add the mushrooms, garlic, salt, pepper and thyme. Mix it in and cook on a medium heat for 5-6 minutes until the mushrooms are cooked through and the water dries up. Set it aside to cool completely.

  3. Preheat the oven to 180c. Spoon the cream cheese onto the puff pastry squares. Keep the cream cheese within the middle of the pastry, away from the scored border.

  4. Top the cream cheese with the mushroom mixture.

  5. Bake the mushroom puff tarts at 180c for 20-22 minutes until golden and puffed up. Set the puffs aside for 5-10 minutes.

  6. Top with crumbled feta cheese then serve.
