I love cooking for my kids. And the pre-packaged sauces really aren’t good for them. They are full of sugar, salts and flavourings. I would prefer to know exactly what is inside the sauces I am cooking with. So that’s why I make them myself.
Preparation Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Yields 2 cups
Ingredients
6 ripe tomatoes
2 teaspoon oil
1 large clove galic- minced
1/4 onion- chopped
1 teaspoon mixed herbs
3/4 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon chilli flakes
Salt- to taste
1 tablespoon tomato puree.
1/2 tablespoon butter
Instructions
Slit the tomatoes on the Botton with an X.
Blanch the tomatoes in boiling water for 3-4 minutes. Remove from the water and cool to room temperature. Remove the skins and discard them.
Chop 3 of the tomatoes, grind the other 3 until smooth.
Heat the oil In a pot. Add the onions and cook on medium heat until translucent. Add the garlic and sauté 1 minute until fragrant.
Add all the tomatoes and cook for 5 minutes on medium heat. Mash it as much as possible.
Add the tomato puree, sugar, salt, mixed herbs, chilli flakes. Cook for a further 5 minutes. Add the butter and mix well.
If you prefer a smooth sauce, grind it down until smooth.
