Chicken Gyros

Writer's picture: Happy Hungry Hijabi Happy Hungry Hijabi

I wonder where my kids get the idea to ask for more and more exotic foods from different countries every day…. Hmm.. I wonder…. But this weekend the kids actually asked for chicken gyros. I have a huge list stuck to my fridge for recipes that I am actually tweaking and adjusting to get them ready to upload on the site. The kids circled Chicken Gyros- which they still pronounce as ‘guy-rows’. So off to the kitchen I went and whipped these delicious Chicken Gyros up in 20 minutes. I served the gyros with pita, salad, pickles, wedges, hummus, tzatziki and fried halloumi! SO DELICIOUS!

The best thing about the recipes I make is that I try making recipes as simple as possible so that I can get time for other things. This then makes it easy for others to follow the recipes too. I am attaching the recipes for the other items on the board here:

Preparation Time 10 minutes

Marination Time 4 hours

Cook Time 30 minutes

Serves

Ingredients

Chicken

500 grams chicken breasts- butterflied

3 tablespoons yogurt

2 teaspoon paprika

2 teaspoons oregano

1 tablespoon garlic paste- 4 cloves minced garlic

2 tablespoons lemon juice

1 teaspoon red chilli flakes

1 teaspoon cumin powder

2 teaspoons coriander powder

2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon back pepper

Serve with grilled halloumi, potato wedges, flatbread, tzatziki, pickles and salad

Instructions

  1. Place the chicken in a bowl. Add the remaining ingredients and mix well. Marinate the chicken for 4 hours

  2. When ready to cook, heat 2 tablespoons oil in a large pan on medium heat. Cook the chicken on a medium heat for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden and cooked through. Allow the chicken to rest for 2 minutes before slicing.
