Chicken Buns

When I am bored of the same old routine, with the same repeated dishes, I try to come up with something fun for the kids to eat. Something different, something that doesn't make a mess and maybe, just maybe a win! I was skeptical about the chicken buns but the surprise inside the buns was fun for the kids. I served them with a Big Mac Sauce and fries. Ultimately, this experiemnt was a huge success for them, which is why I decided to share them here!

Preparation Time 1 hour plus 1.5 hour rise time

Cook Time 25- 30 minutes

Yields 8 chicken buns

Ingredients

Chicken filling

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1 small onion- chopped

500 grams chicken- cubed

1 teaspoon minced ginger

1 teaspoon minced garlic

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder

2 tablespoon soy sauce

4 tablespoon tomato ketchup

1 cup cheese- grated

Dough

2 cups all purpose flour

1 teaspoon sugar

2 1/2 teaspoon dry active yeast

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 egg

1/4 cup warm milk

1/4 cup warm water

Extras

1 cup flour

1 tablespoon oil

1 egg- beaten

Sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling: heat the oil in a pan. Cook the onion until translucent. Add the chicken and mix until the colour changes.

  2. Add the finger, garlic, salt, pepper, red chilli powder and then mix it in well.

  3. Add the soy sauce and ketchup. Cover and cook for 5-6 minutes. Cook on a high heart uncovered until the moisture is absorbed and dried out.

  4. Roughly break apart the chicken. Add the cheese and mix it through. Set the mixture aside to cool to room temperature.

  5. Prepare the dough: combine the warm water, sugar and yeast. Mix it through and allow it to bloom for 15 minutes.

  6. Combine the flour and salt. Mix it well. Add the yeast mixture, milk and egg. Knead the dough for 5-10 minutes until the dough is smooth.

  7. Brush the top of the dough with oi and cover it. Leave it to rise in a warm place for 1 hour.

  8. Divide the dough into 8-10 balls.

  9. Roll the dough balls out and fill with the chicken filling. Press and seal them shut.

  10. Cover the dough balls and allow them to rise again for 30 minutes.

  11. Brush the tops of the buns with beaten egg and sesame seeds. Bake them at 180c for 25-30 minutes.
