Weekend breakfasts and brunch are a huge affair at our house. We love getting together with family and trying new dishes. Sometimes we stick to the traditional Pakistani breakfast items like Nihari, Paye and Parathas, but at other times, the kids just want French toast, pancakes or even omelettes. I have to be prepared for the unexpected on the weekends. But I will happily make them a large filling breakfast on the weekend, where we can just sit and talk for an hour or so, catching up after a heavy week of school and work.
Those waffles, pancakes and French toast need toppings right? And I have the perfect toppings: caramelised bananas and caramelised apples. And of course feel free to add some whipped cream to them too! Doesn’t get better than that does it?
Preparation Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 5 minutes
Serves 6
Ingredients
2 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons light brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
A pinch of salt
3 large apples- peeled and sliced
Instructions
Melt the butter in a large pan, over a medium heat.
Add the brown sugar, cinnamon and the salt. Cook it on a low heat until it bubbles. This should take around 2 minutes.
Add the apples and 1 tablespoon of water. Mix it well and cook it for 8-10 minutes until the apples are tender. Be careful to only stir the apples occasionally. If you stir too often, the apples will break apart.
Serve warm.
